Designing for women requires understanding their perspective and role in forming the built environment. This study summarizes the findings and work of architect, Heather Rule, as part of her Fulbright research grant studying Women’s Agency in the Built Environment of Ecuador. By using participatory and observation research methods, which can be applied on many projects, the presenter worked with women to understand how they perceived and lived within their homes, communities, and work settings.
