This tour will include an overview of the Mueller development master-planned by McCann Adams Studio, as well as architect-led tours of several featured projects.
Located on a decommissioned airport, this mixed-use urban infill community adds jobs and residents to a part of Austin that has long experienced disinvestment and deterioration. The community features four miles of urban greenways and trails, affordable housing, a network of walkable streets, provision for urban rail transit, regional water quality and detention, and a landmark program of green building.
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, by Weiss Architecture, is designed to engage existing and future movie lovers. This six-screen cinema/eatery combines the latest in technology with historic movie-centric details and surprises at every turn.
The Thinkery at the Meredith Learning Lab, designed by Koning Eizenberg and STG Design, is Austin’s innovative and playful children’s museum, housing an array of experience-centered exhibits and creative educational programs.
The Pike Powers Living Laboratory, designed by Matt Fajkus Architecture and Hsu Office of Architecture, functions both as a model sustainable smart home as well as an active lab for sustainable technology experimentation, where researchers, utility providers, and the public can see the systems at work and test new approaches in a real world, carefully controlled setting.
The John Gaines Park Swim Center, designed by Stanley Studios, features a playground, community garden with salvaged bus shelter pavilion, and integrated landscaping. The tour will focus on the Poolhouse, a tactile, dynamic demonstration of low-impact design with a biophilic bent.
