Historic preservation can take on many forms — renovation, remodels, adaptive re-use, restoration. Experience projects that saved old buildings/created great places but did not qualify for historic tax credits to better understand where tax credits can and cannot be used. Motivation for preservation beyond tax credits can include sustainability, cultural significance/community pride, and benefits to the economy. Building codes and accessibility don’t need to deter preservation — learn to use existing building codes to your advantage.
