Description
Although the “hilltop” of St. Edward’s University is crowned by Nicholas Clayton’s 1888 Main Building, it is anything but a stodgy Victorian era campus. Top off your TxA Convention with a tour of the Hilltopper’s campus and its collection of modern architectural jewels. This walking tour will allow you to experience architectural works designed by architects of international acclaim and local fame.

The tour will begin with a brief history of St. Edward’s University, an overview of how its unique collection of architecture came to be, and what’s envisioned by its most recent Master Plan. A walking tour of the campus will follow and feature Pritzker Prize winner Alejandro Aravena’s “Village,” Andersson-Wise’s Trustee Hall and Fleck Hall, Pollen Architecture’s Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel, Mell Lawrence’s UFCU Alumni Gym, Sasaki’s Munday Library, and end with Burton Baldridge’s invigorating renovation of Nicholas Clayton’s Holy Cross Hall. Participants are welcome to linger after the tour to enjoy the campus and hang out at one of Austin favorites — Jo’s Coffee. If you miss the bus, no worries — public transportation is an easy catch back to downtown.
