For the co-working and alternative office company TechSpace, expanding to Austin meant creating a space that embodies the city's love of the outdoors and longstanding reputation in the tech and innovation market. An 8,000-sf first floor organized in a U-shape provides the full range of work modes, while being flexible enough to hold both small and large events. A front porch along Cesar Chavez establishes the company's presence on the street and serves as an extension of the office into the urban environment.

A 20,000-sf fourth floor accommodates diversity of workspace for approximately 250 people, while cafe and backyard spaces provide alternative work and social spaces. The design combines the raw appeal of the building’s structure with refined finishes. Materials maintain a consistent muted color palette of wood, concrete, steel and glass, while finishes such as the large blue glass mosaic and a custom steel wall complement the overall refined yet casual aesthetic. A blend of structural, honest, and refined finishes prevail.

Many materials represent best sustainability practices and promote healthy indoor air quality. The wood used throughout the project is reclaimed and locally sourced. Materials such as the felt walls were chosen for minimal off gassing properties, and no VOC paints were used. By utilizing custom art, graphics, and furniture from collaborations with local artists the project establishes a tangible connection to the city and to TechSpace's other offices.
